Notes

🔥 Thomas More was born in London in 1478. He was educated at a free grammar school in London and then, through a fortunate connection, got a spot at the University of Oxford.

🔥 He lived in the orbit of many influential humanist writers, including Erasmus.

🔥 More eventually started working for the king, and that gave him opportunities for travel. The first trip he took is what led to his most famous work, Utopia.

🔥 He continued to work for the king, but later left and did more writing. But that soon got him in trouble with the regime.

🔥 In 1535, More was found guilty of treason for denying the king's supremacy, and executed.

🔥 I'm reading the Oxford World's Classics version with an introduction and notes by Dr. Joanne Paul, published in 2025.
