The Prince - 0 - Introduction
Introduction
Quote
I have not found among my belongings anything that I might value more or prize so much as the knowledge of the deeds of great men that I have learned from a long experience in modern affairs and a continuous study of antiquity.
Notes
🔥 Niccolo Machiavelli is born in Florence, Italy in 1469. He enters the Chancery (or court) in 1498 and serves there until 1512 when the government is overthrown by the Medici family. Machiavelli then loses his position, is put in prison for a time, and tortured.
🔥 He writes The Prince in 1513, just after these events. Though the book isn't published until 1532, which is a few years after his death in 1527.
🔥 Machiavellian is a word used to describe someone who is "cunning, scheming, and unscrupulous, especially in politics."
🔥 His collected works were placed on the Index of Prohibited Books by the Catholic Church in 1559.
🔥 I'm reading the Oxford World's Classics edition, published in 2008.
